While DoorDash customers occasionally encounter the weirdest and baddest drivers, such as those who steal their food instead of delivering it to their doorstep or give the wrong order, others want to change the stereotype by going above and beyond for customers. Here’s the scoop.
This DoorDash driver earned lots of praise online for compliance with their customers’ particular demands. If you were the driver and got matched to an irate customer, will you even get angry? For this driver, it’s the other way around.
The driver posted on Reddit sharing their situation while they were completing an order that required them to shop for the order before delivering it.
“First time doing a shop and pay where a customer had too many requests and instructions. Their only request was to use self checkout, then they freak out when I had placed items on the side table by the scanner to scan items (I shouldn’t have sent a photo of items in the first place). Other dashers in my area that get this customer’s order immediately decline to not have to deal with this particular customer. It’s obvious that they have major OCD but DoorDash should inform us prior to accepting the order that an order requires special care and attention. I didn’t mind completing the delivery since they had tipped $10 in the app and another time after I completed the handoff. Overall I think I was a bit over accommodating. What do y’all think about customers whose requests are very extreme when doing an order like this one?” the driver wrote on Reddit.
If you were the driver, you’d most probably cancel the job. But, for this DoorDash driver, he even sent a picture of the item as he was at the self-checkout machine to show he got the right photos and that he was complying with the customer’s specific requests.
But the most exciting part is just about to come.
If you were the customer, you’d probably say “thank you” for the effort. But, for the driver’s customers, it’s a no. The customer responded via text, “I have major anxieties and germophobia. That’s why I asked you to use self-checkout, so that it wouldn’t touch anything. I thought normally people just scan the items and put them directly into a bag?”
So, the customer ordered the driver to return to the shelves. The driver handled this awkward situation diplomatically.
The DoorDash driver happily complied, stating, “I understand your issues and will do my best to accommodate your requests!”
People were blown away by the way the driver handled the situation. They praised what he’s done.
One netizen commented, “I am not a germaphobe but have OCD, and the intrusive thoughts are just, even if I know they aren’t rational, are so convincing and consuming. Thank you for providing so much kindness to that person. I know how triggering someone with OCD can be to whomever is helping them, and it was really cool to see this post.”
Others treated this as their inspiration, saying, “I’m going to stash a pair of disposable gloves in my car’s first aid kit, just in case. Even if I never use them for delivery, it makes sense to add them, just in case of an emergency.”
