Here Is What’s Next For Defunct foodpanda Thailand

Officially, foodpanda Thailand has closed down today. Previously, Ridesharing Forum reported on this announcement.

Among the reasons for the cessation of its operations are the platform’s inability to turn a profit, having accumulated losses of up to a whopping $400 million. Plus, the competition in the market is getting fiercer than ever.

foodpanda Thailand clarified on social media, though, that they are happy and proud of their service, only the market conditions have not aligned no longer with their long-term strategies. The company thanked its customers, restaurants, partners, and riders for the support.

Ridesharing Forum also reported that the German owner of foodpanda Thailand, Delivery Hero, will instead redirect its resources and efforts to other markets in Asia-Pacific, hoping they will get better returns there.

But, there are new plans along the line.

According to a more recent report on the Bangkok Post, foodpanda Thailand has reached a strategic redirection agreement with Robinhood, another Thai food delivery platform, “to further expand business opportunities.”

This agreement will ensure a seamless transition for Food Panda’s customers, restaurant partners, and delivery riders in Thailand to Robinhood, effective immediately after the announcement this week.

As part of the transition, Robinhood has enhanced its own app to be more English-language friendly, accommodating the foreign market that foodpanda Thailand had, such as tourists visiting the country for vacation.

Robinhood’s chief executive officer, Morakot Yipintsoi, shared how the company is dedicated to making the transition as smooth as possible and inclusive.

She said, “This agreement marks a significant moment in Thailand’s food delivery industry — demonstrating how international brands and local platforms can collaborate to deliver innovation and continuity. We are committed to welcoming foodpanda’s customers and partners with open arms, ensuring a smooth, human-centred transition based on fairness, service quality, and care.”

foodpanda Thailand’s network of riders, restaurant partners, and customers, therefore, will be redirected to Robinhood, continuing a history of fairness, trust, and excellent service. New marketing gimmicks are expected to be seen in the next days or so.

Robinhood is a Thai food delivery app that offers fast and reliable services. It features a wide range of your beloved local eateries and top restaurants across Bangkok and the surrounding areas in a one-stop app, making every meal convenient, affordable, and provided with care. Robinhood stated it will expand into more regional cities by the end of this year.
