Lyft Promo Code and Referral Code for new Drivers with Sign-up Bonus

Lyft Promotions and Bonuses

Lyft has started to jump its ratings and global presence with customers and investors. This amazing company started out as another rideshare company that Uber ignored while it rampaged on its global blitzkrieg. Fortunately for Lyft, its executive board knew that true success did not come with the amount of free cash you had to throw around, but by clever money management even when resources could be slight. In fact, a stepwise progression built from a lack of resources creates a much more adaptable environment and leads to an evolutionary company that listens to its employees, drivers, and customers, with the intent of improving the service and expanding its coverage and influence while increasing its profitability. Profitability is not necessarily higher prices; it can come from operational improvements leading to efficiency, reducing waste and closing "loss centers."

Lyft has created a number of incentives that lead both customers and drivers to want their service and to expand Lyfts coverage. These bonuses and promotions come in a number of ways and include:

  • Sign up bonuses for drivers and customers
  • Cash bonuses for existing drivers and customers

New Driver Bonuses

These only apply when a new driver activates a referral code of an existing driver. The bonus is in cash and can be anywhere between $10 to $1,000! This difference is based on the urgency and saturation of a market. These bonuses are double sided, the new driver and the referring driver both enjoy equal cash benefits.

The requirements for receiving a bonus are meeting a minimum number of trips within 30 days from the moment the new applicant is accepted. Since these requirements vary from city to city and change over time, Lyft usually sends an update mail to both the applicant and the referrer with the bonus details.

New driver Guarantees

Some cities offer new drivers an immediate weekly guarantee; it is a Lyft promotional incentive that will pay the new drivers the difference of a guaranteed amount in the first week for driving only.

The details of this bonus are: drive for 50 hours and complete 50 rides. Accept no less than 90% of all requests.

Here is a list of the cities with this bonus:

Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Washington, D.C.

Average Hourly Guarantees

Weekly guarantees are bonuses for existing drivers, and they promote drivers to meet certain requirements that assure them of more income. So long as the requirements are met, drivers will earn an extra amount of money as determined by the guarantee.

Drivers must maintain a 90% acceptance rate and meet the minimum guarantee requirements. The most basic requirement is that drivers need to be in driver mode for 50 minutes per hour or 84% of the time. This only means you need to keep the app on and be in acceptance mode.

Example:

If Lyft sets the guaranteed income per hour at $25, then they will calculate your weekly hours like this:

  1. Check your pre-commission time and distance
  2. Check your prime-time earnings
  3. They will divide the total number of hours of 2 from 1.
  4. Get paid the difference

An example – From Lyft website

Let's say there are guarantee hours on Monday, Feb. 16, but John opts in later that week, on Sunday, Feb. 22. Good news for John: He's still eligible for the guarantee as of Monday, Feb. 16 because that's within Sunday's preceding week — they're in the same pay period.

John drives from 7:05-7:55 a.m., which would count as 50 minutes in driver mode for the 7-8 a.m. hour. If he had driven from 7:30-8:30 a.m., that would only count for 30 minutes of the 7-8 a.m. hour, and separately, 30 minutes of the 8-9 a.m. hour. His passenger requests a ride at 7:45 a.m., so that ride counts towards the 7-8 a.m. hour, even if the ride would have ended at 8:05 a.m. instead of 7:55 a.m. Note that Lyft Line rides can count as multiple rides if they have multiple pickups.

Pay time! John qualified for 10 guarantee hours in a week. During those 10 hours, he made a total of $200 in eligible gross ride receipts, which averages out to $20/hour. Let's say we guaranteed John an average of $40/hour, pre-commission. After taking out Lyft's commission (let's say it's 20%, for this example), we'll bonus him an extra $16/hour — a total of $160.

In some cities, different hours are in different guarantee tiers. John's 10 $40 guarantee hours are in the same tier because they're all worth the same amount. Let's say he drove 5 other hours that had a $25/hr average guarantee — those 5 hours are in a different tier, so they're added up separately. If John makes $150 in eligible gross ride receipts during the other 5 hours (averaging $30/hr), he won't get any additional bonus for those hours — but he'd still get the extra $160 from his 10 $40 guarantee hours. *Average hourly guarantees are pre-commission, and any resulting bonuses are subject to Lyft's commission. Power Driver Bonuses do not apply to guarantee bonuses. Terms apply and are subject to change.

Passenger Referrals

Lyft has added a number of bonuses for referring new customers; it's a great way to gain more credit in the Lyft app which can be used for free or reduced riding costs.

How it works

Drivers can get paid around $10 per referral and customer $20. The ride credits need to be used within 30 days. Drivers can follow-up their referral credits in the "referral" screen of the app.

Here is a list of the cities with this bonus:

Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Orange County, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Washington, D.C.

Note: This is a one customer one referral system, you cannot refer a customer twice. If you received a request, you cannot apply that passenger to the referral code during the trip. The referral code must be inserted before ordering a trip. Remember that a referral code only lasts 30 days.

Customers referring Customers

We have compounded a customer referral code usage system for customers that want to enjoy the income from Lyfts referral system:

  • Use a first-time rider Lyft referral code
  • Use a competitor's app
  • Invite friends with your unique referral link
  • Take a ride from a first-time user

These four methods have proven themselves over time and always work, so try them all out and try not to stick to only one or two methods. Also, don't get disenchanted at the slow progress at first, over time you will become adept at this, and it will become second nature for you, saving you a lot of money.

  1. Use your first Lyft ride credit

This is the first and most common step; all new customers should take a promotional code from an existing customer. If you know someone that is a Lyft rider, then get their referral code, you get your bonus, and they get one too.

After you download the app and log in, you input the referral code in the "payment" screen and just request a ride.

The moment you take your first ride you are considered to be an "existing customer" and can only use the next four methods to get free Lyft rides.

  1. Use a Lyft Competitor

Since there is more than one ride-share company, Uber is Global and larger then Lyft Globally. It's worthwhile joining up to Uber and then taking a free ride from them. You can also apply some of these five points to Uber as well as to Lyft.

Here are the instructions to become an Uber customer:

  • Download the Uber app from either App Store, Google Play, or directly from the Uber.com site.
  • Create an account; this is a similar process to Lyft
  • Login to your new account
  • Tap "Settings" in the upper left corner of the screen. (It has 3 horizontal lines arranged in a square)
  • Tap the "Payment" button on the screen.
  • In the "Add promo code" box type in the promo code and then click "Apply." The promo code will be applied to your account.
  1. Refer a Friend

So far you have used up your first and only free ride from Lyft and Lyft. Now it's time to add more cash by referring friends and relatives to these apps using your referral code. The moment the new customer takes their first ride, you will be credited.

The referral system connects with your mobile devices contact list, and you can e-mail, SMS text or post the referral code to your social media accounts. In fact, you should promote your referral code as much as possible, even adding it as a signature sentence in all your outgoing e-mails.

If you want to go the next step, and you have business cards, get new ones with your referral code printed on them. If you don't have any business cards, print some out with your referral code in big letters where your name should be, also print out flyers if you are that keen and post them in many public places, such as bars, restroom walls, bulletin boards, café's and malls, even hotels are a good place too. Do not promote them on social media paid for advertising such as Google Adsense or Facebook ads.

  1. Take a ride with a first-time rider

If you have managed to sign up a new referral customer, you can try to get them to take their first ride with you. Remember, you have a free credit in your account, so use it to go both ways. If your friend is going anywhere interesting or in your direction, join them and enjoy the ride. You can use the referral code credit to get a ride back. This works quite well, and if you are going in the same direction, or if you can arrange a referral at a time when both of you (or more) need to ride somewhere together, this is a really good way of riding for free.

Once all your contacts have Lyft, and you used this method, then refer to the other methods, and start referring them to Lyft as well.
